Source: The Financial Express, June 12 2009 -The country added over 8 million subscribers during May, taking the
total GSM subscriber base to over 30 million, registering a growth of
2.78%. However, May witnessed a decline of approximately 600.000
subscribers compared to the additions made during April. India's mobile
subscriber base is set to cross 700 million by 2013 according to COAI
estimates.
- Chennai unit top producer for Nokia
Source: The Economic Times, June 12 2009 - Chennai has edged past China as a unit-wise volume producer of Nokia
cell phones. In fact, Nokia’s Chennai factory is now the
company’s largest cell phone manufacturing facility in the world.
China has two such Nokia factories and Chennai one. But Chennai Nokia
has now edged past the larger of the two Chinese factories. While the
Finnish cell phone maker is not revealing the annual capacity of its
Chennai factory, a senior member of its global planning team said the
factory is now indeed its largest manufacturing factory. Unofficial
reports suggest Chennai manufactures over 100 million phones every year.

which will debut during the next two to three years. “The vehicle
is being developed for India specifically as the lead country. It will
then enter other markets across the world,” Mr Masahiro
Takedagawa, President and CEO, Honda Siel Cars India, said here on
Thursday.

- India to spend $20bn on solar plans
Source: EE Times, June 17 2009 -India has unveiled new details on its long-term plans to grow both a
solar market and an indigenous solar photovoltaics industry to serve
it. The news comes in the wake of predictions of a shakeout in the
solar market in 2009 after years when 40 per cent annual growth was not
uncommon. India's National Action Plan on Climate Change, first
announced last year, includes plans to install up to 200 GW of solar
generation capacity by 2050. The first 20 GW of solar capacity is
planned to be installed by 2020.
